The California Lemon Law covers new and used vehicles sold or leased in California that come with the manufacturer’s new vehicle warranty. If the manufacturer or dealer can’t repair a serious warranty defect in your vehicle after a “reasonable” number of repair attempts, the manufacturer must either replace the vehicle, or refund its purchase price (whichever you prefer).
Arbitration Certification Program
The Arbitration Certification Program (ACP) certifies and monitors third-party arbitration programs of participating automobile manufacturers to ensure compliance with California laws and regulations related to new vehicle warranties and manufacturer sponsored arbitration programs.
One of the ACP's goals is to promote the use of alternative dispute resolution in lieu of court action and reduce the strain and cost on consumers and the court system.
American Honda Motor, Co., Inc. voluntarily withdraws its California State-Certified Arbitration Programs effective January 1, 2014. Consumers are free to pursue their Lemon Law rights in court or they may also wish to try mediation through the New Motor Vehicle Board. They may be reached via phone at (916) 445-1888. To contact an attorney you may check your local yellow pages at the beginning of the "attorneys" listing for lawyer referral services, call the State BAR of Californina at (415) 538-2000 to obtain the certified lawyer referral service nearest you, or the internet.
