Public Information – Custom File Overview
A Custom file contains license information related to A SINGLE Agency (for resident and non-resident licensees). It can be customized to include only certain license types, to target specific geographic locations or to provide additional related data, based upon available selection options. The data is then sorted according to the Requestor's preferences.
At minimum, a Custom file includes the licensee's full business or individual name, full address, city code, county code, license type, original issue date, expiration date, date record was last updated, and Agency code. Some class codes (a further distinction within a license type identifying what trade or profession is licensed) are also included for certain agencies.
Email addresses are not provided or available. Phone numbers are only available through a Custom request. No phone numbers are available for individual (personal) license types. Business phone numbers are available for business license types, if provided by the licensee. Education information (school code, year graduated and degree code) is only available through certain Agencies, with their submitted approval, and only through a Custom request. Please contact the specific Agency directly for education information and listings. Primary status codes, other than current renewable licenses are only available through a Custom request.
Because of recent staff shortage, the turn-around time is four to eight weeks from the day the Public Information Unit receives the request form, with full payment. The data is available either on a CD or as an email file (both can come in ASCII text format or Microsoft Excel format). (Data for the Medical Board of California, Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, Board of Behavioral Science, Board of Registered Nursing and Bureau of Security and Investigative Services is only available on CD due to the file size exceeding 65,000 records. The record size may exceed 65,000 records if most or all available license information is requested.) The cost for a CD or an email file is $245.00 per Agency.
Fees are non-refundable unless there is a defect in the product. Replacement data is not applicable after five business days following the mailing of the output. For refunds under $10.00, the Requestor must submit a written request to the Public Information Unit, due to accounting requirements. Please allow 90 days for all refunds.
