Written Examination Information
Computerized Administration of the Written Examination
In an effort to make the hearing aid dispenser written examination more widely available throughout the state, the Hearing Aid Dispensers Bureau (HADB) has contracted with an outside agency to administer the written exam.
The written examination is administered on an easy to use computerized system through Psychological Services, LLC (PSI). Applicants must submit the examination application and fee to the HADB and will receive a Notice of Eligibility from PSI. Upon receipt of the Notice of Eligibility, applicants must call PSI to make an appointment to take the written examination at one of its examination sites. The written examination will be scored on site and the results will be provided to the applicant at the conclusion of the examination.
Handbook
The California Hearing Aid Dispensers Bureau Written & Practical Examination Candidate Information Bulletin is the applicable handbook to use in preparing for the written and practical exams. The handbook will be mailed to applicants by PSI.
Applying for the Written Examination
Submit the "Hearing Aid Dispenser Written License Examination Application" and $100 examination fee to the HADB. Applicants must have a Hearing Aid Dispenser License Application on file with the HADB before applying to take the written examination. The process takes approximately 4 weeks.
Applicants must pass the written examination before applying to take the practical examination.
