Carrie Lopez

Carrie Lopez was appointed Director of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) in April of 2007 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. DCA is home to more than 40 boards, bureaus and commissions. The department issues licenses in more than 100 businesses and 200 professional categories including doctors, contractors, boxers, cosmetologists, and auto repair facilities.

Carrie Lopez was formerly the Executive Director of the Coro Foundation, a civic leadership organization in Los Angeles. As Executive Director she was responsible for guiding the programmatic and development strategies for the Coro Foundation. In her Coro tenure, she also served as Director of Programs & Training, in which her responsibilities included program development, curriculum and evaluation design, trainer development, and client relations.

Prior to that, Lopez was Organizational Effectiveness Manager for the City of San Diego and a Community Relations Manager for the Pacific Gateway Group, a public relations and management consulting firm. Lopez was also a Program Specialist for the Los Angeles Educational Alliance for Restructuring Now and was a Legislative Aide to Senator Nicholas Petris.

Lopez holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and World Politics from the University of California, Davis and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Lopez completed the California Senate Fellows Program and the Leadership America Program. Lopez also serves as the Co-Founder and current Chair of the HOPE Leadership Institute, a statewide network of Latinas who are actively influencing policy issues and the political process throughout California.

She currently sits on the Board of Directors for Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) and Latino Issues Forum, and serves as a Tribal Advisor to the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians.
