SACRAMENTO — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has proclaimed February 1-7 as California Consumer Protection Week to raise awareness of the importance of making educated financial decisions.

"The cornerstone of an advanced and robust economy is business integrity and consumer trust," Governor Schwarzenegger said in the proclamation. "The free flow of goods and services is a positive force in society when all parties conduct honest transactions."

In association with the Governor's proclamation, the California Department of Consumer Affairs has launched a special Web page with a wealth of information to help consumers of all ages learn and master the necessary skills to become financially literate. The Department has also scheduled a number of outreach events throughout the state during the week.

The Governor's proclamation also notes the important work done by the Department of Consumer Affairs, which licenses more than 2.3 million Californians in more than 230 different trades and professions.

"During this sixth annual National Consumer Protection Week, we encourage and support a positive relationship between consumers and businesses," Governor Schwarzenegger said.
