The California Bureau of Automotive Repair
Says Clean Air is Everyone's Job!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 22, 2004
The California Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Automotive Repair (DCA/BAR) wants to remind consumers that a well maintained vehicle produces less smog.
In light of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's tough new air quality standards in California's smoggiest areas, BAR offers the following tips to help consumers save gas and do their part in cleaning the air:
- Change engine oil and air, oil and fuel filters at manufacturer's suggested intervals.
- Perform all other service and maintenance at manufacturer's suggested intervals.
- Check tire pressure frequently.
- Check tire condition for abnormal wear patterns.
- Inspect hoses, wiring and belts regularly.
- Service engine promptly when warning lights appear.
- Do not modify a vehicle's emission control system.
Such simple and inexpensive procedures not only help cars last longer and prevent more serious and expensive problems, but they play an important part in keeping California's air clean.
