Consumer Information
It's tax season. Many California consumers choose Certified Public Accountants or Public Accountants to prepare their tax forms.
Selecting the right CPA or PA for you may be a challenging process. To assist consumers in this process, some tips for selecting a CPA or PA are provided below.
The California Board of Accountancy licenses and regulates Certified Public Accountants and Public Accountants in California. The Board currently regulates over 72,000 licensees (both individuals and firms).
You may check the status of a licensee through CBA's Licensee Look Up or call CBA at (916) 263-3680.
CBA is also responsible for investigating complaints against licensees who violate the laws that apply to the practice of public accountancy. Information about filing a complaint and CBA's complaint form is available on CBA's Web site through "Filing a Complaint with California Board of Accountancy."
