Board Pulls Newport Beach Architect's License After Felony Convictions
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 27, 2005
SACRAMENTO — A Newport Beach man has lost his architect's license after pleading guilty to 13 felony counts in Orange County Superior Court.
The California Architects Board (Board), the Department of Consumer Affairs' agency responsible for regulating architects in California, sought to revoke Andrew Paul Goetz's license after he admitted in January 2005 that he forged or altered land surveys on more than a dozen homes in Newport Beach.
"Consumers have the right to expect that architects will adhere to the Architects Practice Act and practice in a professional and safe manner," said Doug McCauley, the Board's executive officer.
Goetz, who had been licensed to practice architecture in California since 1987, did not contest the revocation, which went into effect June 16, 2005, and has surrendered his license.
Under California law, being convicted of a crime substantially related to the practice of architecture is grounds for discipline.
Mr. Goetz's sentence in Orange County Superior Court, included 60 days in jail, three years of probation, and immediate surrender of his architect's license. The Board worked closely with the Newport Beach Police Department during its investigation.
The mission of the Board is to protect the public health, safety, and welfare through the regulation of the practice of architecture and landscape architecture. For more information, visit the Board's Web site at www.cab.ca.gov.
