SACRAMENTO – Antonette Sorrick of Sacramento has been selected as the new Executive Officer for the California State Board of Guide Dogs for the Blind. She will commence her new duties March 10, 2008.
Sorrick will replace Jane Brackman, who has been the Board's Executive Officer since March 2006. Brackman has decided to leave the Board in order to spend more time writing books and essays on dogs and social science.
Sorrick has served as Deputy Director for Board Relations for the Department of Consumer Affairs since 2005. Prior to that, she was the Department's Assistant Deputy Director for the Consumer and Community Relations Division. She has also served as a policy and research manager for the California Building Industry Association.
"The California Board of Guide Dogs for the Blind is confident that Ms. Sorrick will be a proficient, caring and enthusiastic Executive Officer," said Jeffrey Neidich, President of the Board. "Her background in California's legislative, fiscal and regulatory processes will be an asset to the Board."
The California State Board of Guide Dogs for the Blind was established in 1947. It creates and enforces minimum standards for guide dog schools and instructors, expanding opportunities for guide dog users through better public education and law enforcement.
