Los Angeles Area Registered Nurse's License Suspended

Individual didnít reveal past murder, attempted murder convictions when applying for his license.

LOS ANGELES Ė An Administrative Law Judge today suspended the Registered Nursing license of Lorvencio Tan Benavidez for omitting his conviction for murder and attempted murder on his application for licensure

The Board of Registered Nursing, which requested the suspension, will now proceed with efforts to permanently revoke Benavidez's license.

"Our top priority is to protect the health and safety of the public," said Board of Registered Nursing Executive Officer Louise Bailey. "This individual clearly presents an ongoing threat to the health and safety of consumers."

When Benavidez submitted his Registered Nurse license application in 2008, he admitted he had been convicted of a crime and later disclosed that he failed to provide proof of car insurance. However, he failed to disclose that he had been found guilty of murder and attempted murder in the Philippines. In 1996, Benavidez was convicted of the murder of Roderick Asis in September 1994 and the attempted homicide of Hermogenes Curaresma, Alejandro Fidelis and Saturnino Agustin. He fled the country before sentencing.

In May 2012, the Board received information that Benavidez and his brother were fugitives from the Philippines and began an investigation.
