DCA Director, Carrie Lopez holds a press conference at the Bureau of Automotive Repair's field office in the Los Angeles area to announce the results of BAR's Unlicensed Sweep. Investigators visited more than 250 suspected unregistered or delinquent auto repair shops in Los Angeles County. During this sweep, 67 shops were found to be non-compliant with California law.

BAR personnel train law enforcement on how to recognize vehicles whose engines and emissions systems have been illegally modified for street racing, giving law enforcement and additional tool in their efforts to halt dangerous street racing. BAR, in conjunction with the state Department of Toxic Substances Control, will recognize those automotive repair dealerships that use environmentally friendly practices such as recycling hazardous materials.
