Consideration of the CPA Experience Requirements Taskforce

CERT Objective Statement

In 2022, the California Board of Accountancy (CBA) formed a taskforce to address one important question:
Is the present attest experience requirement necessary and sufficient to support the CBA mission to protect consumers by ensuring only qualified licensees practice public accountancy in accordance with professional standards?

The nine-member taskforce, titled the Consideration of the CPA Experience Requirements Taskforce, or CERT, consists of four members of the CBA (two public members and two CPA members), and one member representing each of the following: the accounting profession, academia, consumers, the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), and a CBA advisory committee member with a license obtained with general accounting experience. Survey

The CERT has launched a survey with the purpose of gathering input from stakeholders about the experience requirements in question. The survey was designed with specific questions for different segments of the accounting profession, from licensed CPAs to consumers and more. We invite you to share your opinion with us by taking the survey.
